Course Description

Goal:

The goal of this course is to teach the home inspector to write a comprehensive home inspection report according to the standards and the inspector's observations.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student shall be able to:

  • Describe the difference between a checklist and a narrative report;

  • List the three functions of a report narrative;

  • Accept the level of assumption;

  • Identify defects found during a typical home inspection in writing; 

  • Develop customized report narratives for the inspection report;

  • Use "no visible evidence" language;

  • Assess the risks of exceeding the standards of practice; 

  • Communicate what happens when an inspector misses something;

  • List ways inspectors can avoid lawsuits by writing accurate inspection reports

  • Properly communicate in writing the need to correct defects.
